Cut through the confusion of Medicare

All of your working years, you had an HR Department that did all the investigation of insurance plans for you.  And once a year they came to you and said, “Would you like Plan A or Plan B for your health coverage?”

Now that you’re coming in to Medicare age, it all falls on your shoulders.  But there are solutions to make it easier.

1.        Talk with your County Aging Disability Resource Center (ADRC).  I know in Portage County Wisconsin we are lucky to have a fabulous ADRC that really helps people understand the direction they should pursue.  They are not salespeople, so they have no vested interest in selling you on their product.  They are a Free Service provided by the County to assist you.  Each County in Wisconsin has an ADRC office (I believe).

2.       Find an Agent you can trust.  One who takes the time to understand your unique situation and offers solutions to help protect you.  Be leery of Agents who only want to make a quick sale.  Choose someone who you feel will be around for the next 3-4-5 even 10 years.  Think of your appointment like a job interview.  Would you hire this person?  Do you feel as though they have your best interest at heart?

There is no one size fits all when it comes to Medicare Plans….and it’s not always about PRICE.  Consider……How is your health?   How was your parents health in their late 60’s—70’s---80’s?   What does your financial situation look like now and even 5-10 years from now?  Do you plan to move…..or possibly be a Snow Bird down South part of the year?  Where do your kids (and Grand Kids) live….is it far from you?   All of these items have to go into what will be the better option for you in making your Medicare choices.
